FAQ: Why Was My Upload Not Accepted?

We encourage our Airigami Community to share their own designs and creations through Airigami X. However, we do have rules and guidelines as to what is acceptable to share.

If you have uploaded a model and you don’t see it on the web site immediately, don’t panic! We manually screen all submissions prior to publishing them, and sometimes that may take a while. A delay in your model being published does not mean that it has been rejected.

If your upload has been rejected, it is probably for one of the reasons listed in our rules and guidelines. Perhaps the most difficult rule to understand is the rule on quality of upload. We do not expect perfection, however we do expect that the models look something like the real thing. Below are some common mistakes in designing models.

For the purposes of this tutorial we will use a Lufthansa Boeing 737-200. (Photo courtesy of Ralf Manteufel, GFDL.)

The colors are not accurate

The stripe is a navy blue, a similar shade to the real example. This model would be accepted. The stripe is blue, but the shade of blue is not accurate. This model would not be accepted.

The fonts and lettering are not accurate

The font is bold sans serif, closely spaced, similar to the real example. This model would be accepted. The font is Times New Roman, a serifed font, which is not accurate. It can sometimes be difficult to obtain an exact font match, particularly where an airline uses a proprietary font. However, the font should still be somewhat similar. This model would not be accepted.

The design is … sloppy

The stripe is evenly aligned with the windows. This model would be accepted. The stripe is aligned under the window line, which is not accurate. This model would not be accepted.

The design is overly blurry or pixellated

The design is crisp and well-defined. This model would be accepted. The design is overly pixellated and blurry. This model would not be accepted.

Core features are covered or not visible

The doors, windows and other aircraft equipment and features are all visible. This model would be accepted. The design obscures the door. This model would not be accepted.

The design is rough

The logo is an accurate representation of the actual logo. This model would be accepted. The logo appears to be hand-drawn and looks rough. This model would not be accepted.

Or, there maybe reasons other than quality

Please be aware that not all models will be accepted! All model submissions must meet the following guidelines:

  • Models must be designed on existing Airigami or PapierAvion templates. We do not accept any other formats.
  • Models must feature designs that currently or previously existed. We do not accept “fantasy” airlines, designs, or combinations. For example, we do not accept designs of “pretend” airlines, or non-existent combinations such as, for example, a Qantas Concorde or a British Airways Antonov.
  • Models must not infringe on anyone else’s copyright or intellectual property outside of the definition of Fair Use. You may not upload someone else’s design. For any design you upload, you will hold harmless Airigami and PapierAvion from liability.
  • Models must be original and not be simply “slight tweaks” of existing Airigami designs.
  • We generally do not accept models that already exist in the Airigami or PapierAvion collections. Note that any attempt to upload another person’s work (including models produced by Airigami or PapierAvion) will result in immediate suspension and possibly a ban.
  • We accept military designs only if they are “dual-use” aircraft, i.e., government or military designs of otherwise commercial aircraft. For example, a military Boeing 737 is acceptable, however an F-16 is not.
  • Models must meet a minimum threshold of quality, and should not be overly pixelated or poorly executed. It is difficult to define such a minimum level of quality, and so the management of the Airigami web site shall have sole discretion on judging the quality of any submission. Refer to our FAQ on quality for further guidance.
  • Once uploaded, a model will be deemed to be the property of Airigami and PapierAvion. Airigami and PapierAvion will not sell or otherwise market any uploaded designs. However, equally, no compensation shall be provided for any uploaded designs, which shall be provided by the user gratis.
  • Decisions by Airigami and PapierAvion regarding acceptance and continued hosting of any design shall be final.
  • We also kindly ask that users submit no more than 5 designs per day in order to avoid overwhelming our screening process.
