FAQ: Are the Different Generations Compatible?
As there have been many revisions to the Airigami design over the years, we are often asked if they are compatible with one another. The basic answer is, yes.
Scaling
Airigami 3G, 4G, 5G, and 6G are 100% compatible with one another. Each series is based on the same scale and are published on a standard canvas size, meaning that they will each print at the same scale.
Similarly, Airigami.8 and Papier Avion are also based on the same scale and are published on a standard canvas size, meaning that they will each print at the same scale.
The newer Airigami designs (8G and Papier Avion) can be scaled the same as the older Airgiami designs (3G, 4G, 5G, and 6G) however some calibration at the time of printing is required. We have provided instructions on scaling that explain how to do this.
Parts
In general, individual parts from the older Airgiami designs (3G, 4G, 5G, and 6G) are not compatible with the newer Airigami designs (8G and Papier Avion) as the newer designs represent a completely new design platform.
However, among the newer Airigami designs, Airigami.8 and Papier Avion are largely compatible with each other. It is possible to build models that are “Airigami 8½” where you can easily substitute parts between each style of model. For example, it is possible to install Papier Avion engines on Airigami.8 models, and vice-versa. We recognize that there may be some aspects of each that each individual builder prefers. Both series are designed to the same scale and share many of the same attributes.
